Ata remembered

A Remembrance Ceremony of the first CO of No 68 Night Fighter Sqn´s Cz B Flight S/L Vlastimil Vesely DFC will be held at his native town of Horice on his 100th anniversary on Sep 20.

Vlastimil Vesely, DFC AFC, Karel Mrazek DSO, DFC, Frantisek Fajtl DFC, Josef Frantisek DFM and Josef Duda CBE had a signifiant role in a documentary  ´The Prostejov Military Flying Academy´s pilots in WWII´ Vlastimil´s - nicknamed Ata´s wife came from the town of Prostejov and his urn was interred into a Marta Mojzisova family grave´s vault in Oct 2002. Apart from the military brass band and the Municipality Representatives the event was also visited by the pilot´s nephew Mr Jaroslav Vesely.from the town of Jicin. He saluted his uncle playing the harmonica the very same Good Bye song. Ata had played that on their last meeting in Australia while parting. Taking advantage of his uncle´s notes, Mr Jaroslav wrote a book ´Skywards and to the stars´. Its front cover can be seen HERE  The book is still available at the Garamon Publ. Some of its excerpts are to be cited at the event, fim with Ata seen and swing music listened to.

Having been told by Mr Vesely, the similar Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the town of Jicin either on 14 or 17 th Oct. The exact date depends on a military historian Mr Eduard Stehlik and will be announced in our ´Updates´ Section. Ata left his flat at Argonska St in Jicin for war in 1939.
