                            SOKOL[ sokkol] PROMISE

At this moment of history obedient to the oders

coming from our hearts over the at home

suffering nation, over the brothers and

sisters under torture, influenced by bestial

murders and violence committed by German

murderers on our defenceless people in

holy determination to fight for re-liberation

of our beloved homeland for saving

and freedom the generations to come we pro-

mise again and in a festive way to fight for

a long time until we can see our homeland

free again and for ever against

each wrongdoing and peril

secured and until we take all

our people into an only group governed by

the absolute laws of humanity, equality and

brotherhood.

Always aware of our Sokol membership

we stand ready to prove this promise by

our blood and lives.

The term ´bestial´ used in the Sokol Promise in 1940 was proven by the events mentioned below.

The members of the Sokol Sports Club were targeted by the Reichsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich on his taking power. In his office not for ten days the latter ordered to arrest over eight hundred of the Sokol executives on Oct 8, 1941. They were taken to the Auschwitz and Flossenbuerg concentraton camps to be exterminated there. That reason for the Anthropoid and Silver A Groups secret agents were assisted by dozens of the Sokol members on their landing late December 1941. Following the assassination of Heydrich whole their families were executed in the Mauthausen camp On Oct 24, 1942, Jan 26, 1943 and Feb 3, 1944 - HERE  Most of them on Oct 24, 1942.

For instance both a father and a brother of Cz No 311 Sqn´s  pilot F/Sgt Miroslav Moravec. Also Mr Alena Vyhnisova related to No 116 Sqn´s Czech pilot was among them. Though pregnant due in January 1943 she was shot dead in her neck while her height  was being taken. The youngest victim murdered on that day was fourteen the oldest one eighty.

Fourty six other children had been interned at the Jeneralka Chateau nr Prague. Later moved to the Svatoborice internment camp nr Kyjov in Southern Moravia -  HERE

The first ones were brought to Jeneralka in Aug 1942. They were barred from as speaking as even greeting each other in their mother tongue by two women wardens of German nationality. The youngest were two. Each older child took care of an younger one. For instance Alena Vyhnisova was looked after by Nada Vykoukova and Jana Moravcova by Jaroslava Smrzova.

Intermenment of these children were kept under lid by the German authorities. A Czech cook named Kocour delivered their letter to the addressess given by them. Soon some relatives appeared beyond the fence. They wanted to take a glance of them at least. That reason for all fourty six children were moved to Svatoborice on Apr 14, 1944.
