Winged Lion

The Winged Lion Monument is sited aptly not far from the memorial plaque of A/Cmdr Karel Janousek KCB DSO. The Lion faces the Prague Castle and the River of Vltava with another symbol of our statehood  –  Charles Bridge  –  is behind him beyond the No 4 U zelezne lavky St.

A plaque dedicated to this kingpin of the Cz Air Force is within a stone´s throw sited at  4 U zelezne lavky  St. Its picture can be seen on the second website below both the coloured http://www.svazletcu.cz/images of the Memorial.

At the unveiling ceremony a moving moment ensued while the first Ex-Servicemen assisted by a Cz Army woman member approaching was to the site. The attendees sitting in the first row stood up in honour. Five veterans walked on their sticks or crutches and Tom Gibian on his walking frame.

The Spitfire Mk XVI E TE 184 in the F/Lt Otto Smik DFC´s livery flew over the Winged Lion Monument  A shot of the aircraft was taken by Mr Dan Materna not only here but also over Charles Bridge. Both the http://www.svazletcu.cz/images by him can be seen on the first website below two pictures of the Winged Lion Memorial.
