Metodej Vlach

This both designer and manufacturer of No 1 Czech powered aircraft passed away sixty years ago.

But another pioneer aviator Mr Jan Kaspar raked more fame due to his long distance Pardubice - Velka Chuchle nr Prague. Despite an Air Museum situated at Mlada Boleslav was named after Mr Metodej Vlach. There is no chance it is in this town. Mr Vlach had worked for a Laurin&Klement Car Manufacturer prior the Great War. The company lent him an 38 hp car engine for a monoplane being built by him from 1910 to 1912.  Following the outbreak of the Great War flying was banned by the Austrian-Hungarian authorities. Mr Metodej Vlach was made to give the engine to the company and dismantle an airframe. He never resumed flying.

In 2002 was manufactured a replica of a Metodej Vlach monoplane by Mr Vaclav Vondrasek. It was seen at flight by lots of the attendees at the 100 Powered Flying Celebration  on Oct 3, 2003.  Among them the RAF veterans Generals Frantisek Fajtl DFC, Frantisek Perina and Miroslav Standera.
