Not only Sokol Promise

2015-10-28

On Statehood Day influence of the Sokol Sports Club´s ideas on the Cz RAF personel should not be forgotten.

Inculcated with the ideas of patriotism here from their early years.  Following the occupation of the rump of Bohemian and Moravian lands by the German troops on March 15, 1939 thousands of the Sokol members took part in resistence.  Mr Oldrich Dominik recalls the ones at the town of Konice. They pulled strings in organizing the escape route abroad for his brother too. Sgt. Vladimir Dominik served with Cz No 311 Bomber Sqn as a WO. Without asistence of the Sokol members activity of the UK trained Cz secret agent groups would be out of question. As well as the Rechsprotektor Reinhard Heydrich´s assassination. Dropped within the territory of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia in the 1941 - 1945 time frame.

1/  On May 6, 2015 a memorial plaque dedicated to Col i. m. Joseph Mohr  was unveiled on a wall of the Velke Hamry Sokol Sports Center. He had been its member in the 30s and his native house was pulled down.  A picture of this plaque -  see the ´Plaque dedicated to Joseph Mohr´ text via Links and Museums-memorials.
