Sadly we have to advise of the death of Brigadier Miroslav Standera who passed away in Pilsen yesterday aged ninety five. He was the last Czechoslovak fighter pilot who took part in the 1940 French Campaign.

He graduated from the Prostejov Military Aviation Academy in 1938. Miroslav left his Motherland twice – on June 1, 1939 to Poland and following the Communist coup in 1948 to Western Germany. Mr Standera returned from his second exile in 1995. He was promoted to Brigadier Ret in May 2000. This coloured picture of him was taken at the Prague - Kbely air base on Oct 3, 2003.
