Importance of the event that had occured seventy years ago resulted in its listing among the 1943 ones on No 412 pg of the ´Chronicle of Aviation´ Book.

On May 9, 1943 a Ju 88 night fighter No 360043 flew from Adelborg, Denmark to Kristiansund, Norway. From here the aircraft  took off towards Groeve to the Night Fighters´ HQ.  An engine aflame was radioed while the ship was nearing Scotland skimming waves. She was intercepted by two Spitfires and escorted to the Dyce station nr Aberdeen, Scotland. An expert in radar equipment Dr Jones was brought in and inspected her FuG 202 Lichtenstein airborne intercept radar two days later. On May 14, 1943 was No 360043 escorted by two Beaufighters to the A&AEE, Farnborough. The Reg´s inspection resulted in the first drop of tinfoil strips  called ´Window´on July 24, 1943, which fooled German radar screens.

No 360043 is  seen HERE as the first aircraft of the part two excerpt of the BoB Hall of the RAF Hendon Museum. Both the ones are in the ´CzAA in England in 2004´ Subsection of the ´Documentaries´ Section.

Further words on this aircraft in English : A variety of roles of Junkers 88 comprised one of a bomber, night fighter, recce aircraft and a long range fighter not only over the Gulf of Biscay. The first Ju 88s were delivered to the Luftwaffe in September 1939 and they saw their first action on Sep 26 in the Firth of Forth shipping area. Junkers 88 was used for bombing radar stations, airfields and ports at the initial stage of the Battle of Britain.  The most common was the A1 variant being of a good performance and surprisingly good maneuverability. Due  to insufficient both armory and defensive armament Ju 88 often fell a victim to RAF fighter planes. R1 variant´s top speed and bombload were 627 kmph and 2, 000 kg respectively. An M/G 81 of 0.307 and one M/G 131 of 0.503 cal were mounted in her nose, and two M/G 81s as in dorsal  as ventral positions. No 360043 had been turned out in 1942. It undewent renovation in St Athan from Apr 1974 to Jul 9, 1975 and in 1978 was moved to Hendon.
