No XXII Panel No 311 Bomber Squadron in the 1940 - 1942 Period

245. Several days after its coming into existence, No 311 Sqn was visited by the Head of

        State – L to R : President Benes, W/C Griffith, W/C Mares/Marresh/ on Aug 6, 1940

246. The crewmen of No 311 Sqn taken for the first time altogether at the East Wreatham

        field air base. Most of them were killed in action.

        He amassed fourty one sorties for the Bomber- as well as thirty nine ones for the

        Coastal Commands. Taken early 1941.

252. Dropping their bombload on Berlin, the crew of P/O Karel Trojacek /Karrel

        Troyahchek/ had to land wheels up in Holland on Sep 24, 1940 and except one

        were made POW. The W/O Kunka/Koonyka/ shot himself.

No XXI Panel No 311 Sqn with the Coastal Command

261. S/Ldr Josef Snajdr DFC was No 311 Sqn´s CO from Apr 20, 1942 to Feb 31, 1943.

        He carried out thirty one air raids.

262. KX-A piloted by F/Lt Josef Stransky DFC following her ´1400 bombers´sortie on June

        25, 1942. NOTE : Fourteen No 311 Sqn´s aircraft had ferried from Talbenny to Bircham

        Newton, Norfolk that morning. They took off for Bremen from this airstrip at about 7

        p.m. Only eleven ships reached this primary target, but all fourteen made it home,

        though Z 1090 captained by Sgt. Zezulka/Zhaezzulka/ crashlanded on Brancaster Beach.

No XXIV Panel No 312 Fighter Squadron

        NOTE : Another Junkers 88  was attacked and downed by P/O Otmar Kucera in the

        same location on Feb 16, 1942.   

312. Abandoning his damaged aircraft over the Channel, F/O Jan Stastny/Yan Shtyastnee/

        met his death on Oct 25, 1943 – Churchstanton early 1943.

313. Antonin Prvonic/Antonnyeen Prvonnyich/ was killed in a collision with another plane

        while landing at Manston on May 15, 1944 – by his Spitfire Mk IX in spring 1944.
